Having a rich background in the Wellness field I have a passion for addressing everything from a Mind, Body, Soul aspect. As a Coach the power of my work with my clients lies in guiding and helping them understand the power of the Mind to create amazing transformation. Whether we are talking Mindfulness, Loving-kindness, Smartness, Decision making, Vitality or Wealth-Consciousness, they all originate from the brain.
I am fascinated by the subject of the brain and its powerful impact on the quality of life and business you can have when you nurture it.
Also understanding and respecting the difference between a woman’s and man’s brain can help us change the world together. Differences can also be determined by background and culture.
I am focusing on the nurturing of the feminine brain for this article but wanted to share some of the differences between a male and female brain so you can appreciate the complexity and power of women. This is also why what makes us different is also what is so needed in families, businesses and communities.
Men have a larger brain but size does not equal smartness. Research shows men have 6.5 % more grey matter called the ‘thinking matter’. Women have 9.5 % more white matter, the stuff that connects various parts of the brain giving women an advantage in language skills. When men listen they only use the left brain. When women listen they use both sides of the brain.
A women’s success is built right into her brain. You are equipped to understand what you need to do and make connections across your entire brain to call on unexpected resources to succeed. As a woman you can access the very feminine qualities of love and compassion to achieve great change.
Women realize and admit problems faster than men and act as health leaders in their families and communities. When women take better care of themselves it positively effects everyone around them. Women have incredible power to influence.
Here are 4 ways to nurture your feminine brain and unleash the positive and influential power that can change the world.
1. Eat well
Your health will impact your family’s health. Make sure your food is as clean as possible. Eat fresh, organic and healthy as much as possible. Incorporate good fats, high quality protein and simple carbohydrates.
Serotonin is a neurotransmitter that helps soothe the brain. Foods rich in simple carbohydrates have been found to quickly boost serotonin. Smart carbohydrates include sweet potatoes, apples, blueberries, carrots and chickpeas.
Dopamine is the neurotransmitter involved in motivation, emotional significance, focus and pleasure. Protein helps boost dopamine. A balance is needed as simple carbohydrates which boost serotonin tend to deplete dopamine.
The brain is 60 % fat so incorporate good fats like salmon, avocados, walnuts and olive oil to maintain a high quality of brain tissue.
2. Calm your stress
Women tend to worry more. Stress will affect your ability to be fully present to life.
Journal, meditate, pray, breathe deeply, take a bath, listen to music, take a walk in nature, read, sing, eat mindfully, practice gratitude and focus on the present moment.
Aromatherapy is a very effective tool for creating calmness instantly. Stressaway by Young Living is a lovely blend that includes Vanilla which has been shown in research to calm the brain’s anxiety center. It comes in a handy roll-on. You can also take a vanilla stick, grind it and use it in your food or tea. Research has shown its effect to be felt in 10 minutes.
3. Exercise
It is important to incorporate regular exercise into your schedule to promote blood circulation for nutrients to reach your brain and support your mood, motivation and focus.
Women tend to take care of everything else first and end up putting themselves lower on the list. Yet to contribute more fully we have to take care of ourselves first and that can only happen when you schedule it into your calendar and make it a non-negotiable.
Find the exercise you love and know will do consistently and make place for it in your life. You will radiate more strength, vitality and presence.
4. Sleep right
Not sleeping enough shrinks your brain. Research shows it changes regions important for memory and problem solving. Getting 7 hours of quality sleep is essential for high performance.
Use the suggestions under tip # 2 to support better sleep.
