May you be happy
May you be healthy
May you be safe
May you live with ease

When I ask my clients what they most want to feel, one of the feelings they most long for is peace. And they look outwards for that peace. Yet peace can be as simple as the following practices that anchor in the present moment.

  1. Lighting a Candle

There is something so beautiful and calming about lighting a candle. it immediately invites us to a peaceful silence. A candle can be lit as a prayer for peace and healing, for expressing gratitude and for meditative purposes. Candles illuminate the darkness and are used in many traditions and cultures for holy occasions. They remind us that the light of God surrounds us. The flame of a candle can enhance a meditative practice.

When you witness a difficult situation that does effect you, light a candle and send blessings I recommend to use plastic free tea lites or pillar candles  made from beeswax, They radiate a warm natural glow, have a delicate honey scent and are non-toxic.

2.  A Cup of Tea

Tea is the second most drunk beverage after water. For centuries cultures around the world have held ceremonies revolving around tea.  Tea represents harmony, peace, spiritual connection, rejuvenation and refreshment.

Today we have a huge variety of teas. I love drinking tea and  trying new blends. Some of the best for calming purposes include holy basil, chamomile, lavender, lemon balm, passion flower, saffron and green tea which has calming l-theanine in it.

Some to try:

  • Cup of Calm by Traditional Medicinals with lavender, chamomile and passion flower
  • Turmeric Latte by Organic Traditions with soothing saffron and vanilla
  • Holy Basil by Flora with holy basil and rooibos

3. Writing in a Journal

Writing down your thoughts and feelings can help to process life’s experiences and connect with one’s wisdom. All you need is pen and paper and you can do it wherever you are.

I have written more about  journaling here.

The Serenity prayer can be recited with any of the above practices.

God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
Courage to change the things I can,
And wisdom to know the difference.
