Essential Oils

Aromatic plants have been used since the dawn
of humanity for healing.

Today we are blessed to have access to high quality essential oils that represent plants from all over the globe as Medicine for our Mind, Body and Spirit.

I love their multi-dimensional effect.  They carry the “soul force” of the healing treasures of Nature and provide us with powerful tools of energy and consciousness.

Essential oils can be applied, inhaled, diffused and made into room sprays. My preferred choice of Essential Oils are the world class Essential Oils by Young Living.

Essential Oils as Medicine of the Spirit

Here is a small sampling of beautiful Essential Oils that you can add to your treasure box on the journey of living your Magnificence!

Frankincense

FrankincenseFrankincense (Boswellia carteri) has a sweet, warm, balsamic aroma that is stimulating and elevating to the mind.

Useful for visualizing, improving one’s spiritual connection, and centering, it has comforting properties that help focus the mind and overcome stress and despair.

Also known as “oliganum” or “Oil from Lebanon” the name frankincense is derived from the Medieval French word for “real incense”. Frankincense is considered the “holy anointing oil” in the Middle East and has been used in religious ceremonies for thousands of years.

It was well known during the time of Christ for its anointing and healing powers and was one of the gifts given to Christ at his birth. “Used to treat every conceivable ill known to man”, frankincense was valued more than gold during ancient times, and only those with great wealth and abundance possessed it.

Frankincense is mentioned in one of the oldest known medical records, Ebers Papyrus (dating from sixteenth century BC), an ancient Egyptian list of 877 prescriptions and recipes. More recently, it has been used in European and American hospitals and is the subject of substantial research.

Frankincense oil has profound psychological and spiritual benefits, long recognized by religious and spiritual traditions the world over.

It has the ability to calm and center the mind for tranquil contemplation.

Use a drop on your palms. Rub them together and inhale deeply. It ceases mental chatter and stills the mind. Frankincense facilitates a single-pointedness concentration and allows the Spirit to soar.

Sacred Frankincense

Sacred FrankincenseSacred Frankincense essential oil comes from the Boswellia Sacra Frankincense tree and is distilled at the Young Living distillery in Oman.

Sacred Frankincense is ideal for those who wish to take their spiritual journey and meditation experiences to a higher level.

Young Living is the only company in the world that has the Boswellia Sacra Oil from Oman. In ancient days, only the royalty had the ability to have this product.

Omani Frankincense is regarded the world over as the rarest, most sought-after aromatic in existence. After careful negotiations with Omani officials, Gary Young was granted permission to build a Young Living distillery in the country, and take the resulting essential oil out of Oman.

Omani Frankincense is highly regarded as the Frankincense of the ancients and the traditional spiritual oil of biblical times. Young Living’s Sacred Frankincense marks the first time any Westerners have been able to experience these unique, spiritual properties.  When used during yoga, meditation, or prayer, Sacred Frankincense can deepen your spiritual experience.

Sandalwood

SandalwoodSandalwood (Santalum album) has a rich, sweet, warm, and woody aroma that is sensual and romantic.

Used traditionally as incense in religious ceremonies and for meditation, it is uplifting and relaxing and is high in sesquiterpene compounds which stimulate the pineal gland and the limbic region of the brain, the center of emotions and memory. The best Sandalwood comes from the Mysore Region in Eastern India.

In Ayurvedic (traditional Indian) Medicine, it is used to calm down conditions of “too much fire”. It diminishes the need to overthink and instills a state where Body, Mind and Spirit re-align.  It connects us to our primordial sense of being.

Sandalwood deeply calms the mind. It frees it as a creative source, present in the here and now.
One of my favourite ways to use it is what I call a mini-shirodara treatment. Apply Sandalwood on your forehead and follow with a warm compress. (a small towel dipped in warm to hot water).

Lie down for 10 minutes and marvel at how deeply soothed you will feel. Frankincense, Myrrh and Sandalwood have an ability to instill tranquility.

Myrrh

Myrrh Essential Oil - 15 mlMyrrh (Commipihora myrrha) has a rich, smoky, balsamic aroma that is purifying, restorative, revitalizing, and uplifting.

It is a helpful aid to meditation, having one of the highest levels of sesquiterpenes available.

Sesquiterpenes are a class of compounds that have a direct effect on the hypothalamus, pituitary, and amygdala, the seat of our emotions. Myrrh is referenced throughout the Old and New Testaments of the Bible.

It was listed in Hildegard’s Medicine, a compilation of early German medicines by highly-regarded Benedictine herbalist Hildegard of Bingen (1098-1179).

It was one of the very first aromatic substances valued for its rich and enduring scent.
Myrrh helps to transcend and transform aspects of material existence. Myrrh’s effect on the Spirit is one of inner stillness and peace.

Used as a Funeral Herb by the Ancient Egyptians it has the ability to ease sorrow and grief. In Nature Myrrh appears when the plant is wounded and helps to close the wounds of both loss and rejection. This oil embodies the soothing power of solitude.

Myrrh bridges the gap between “Heaven” and “Earth” and strengthens the link between the Crown and Root Chakra. The dreams and visions of the Soul can find a channel for earthly expression.
